IEBC Results Odinga Leads, Reuters Puts Ruto Ahead - Live Updates

The official results announced by the electoral commission show the veteran politician in Kenya, Raila Odinga, leading the race for the presidency, while Reuters put William Ruto in the top position.

The official results announced on Saturday by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) show the veteran politician in Kenya, Raila Odinga, leading the race for the presidency, with only 26 percent of the votes counted since the election ended five days ago.

According to the results posted on the IEBC board at the Bomas of Kenya hall in Nairobi, the 77-year-old Odinga had 54% of the vote ahead of Deputy President William Ruto with 45% by the afternoon of Saturday August 13, 2022.

Kenya, the leading economy in the East African region and a flourishing democracy, held presidential, parliamentary and gubernatorial elections on Tuesday August 9, 2022.

Ruto and Odingawan appear to be fighting each other in the race to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, who has served the limit of two terms in office.

Kenyatta fell out with his former partner and deputy, Ruto, immediately after the last election in 2017 and since then he has been bringing Odinga closer to him and finally supported him in this election.
